Fibre to the Cabinet (FTTC)

Description: FTTC is the more common type of broadband for business. It uses fibre optic cables to connect the local exchange to a street cabinet, and from there, copper wires connect the cabinet to individual homes or businesses.
Speeds: FTTC typically offers download speeds ranging from 30Mbps to 80Mbps12.

Fibre to the Premises (FTTP)

Description: FTTP, also known as Fibre to the Home (FTTH), involves running fibre optic cables directly from the exchange to the premises, bypassing the need for copper wires entirely.
Speeds: FTTP can offer much higher speeds, typically up to 1Gbps (1,000Mbps) and beyond23.
Availability: While FTTP is less widespread than FTTC, its availability is rapidly increasing, with a target to reach around 85% of UK households by December 20262.
